# Approval issues

> A request goes to the wrong person, nobody can approve it, or approval is blocked.

## The request goes to the wrong person

**Cause:** the approver follows from the person's, the team's and the organization's settings — in that order.

**Fix:**

1. Go to **Settings → Approval processes** and use **Test the approval route** for that person and absence type. You see who approves the request and why.
2. Correct the source setting: the person's supervisor, **Who approves this team's requests**, or **Approval routing** on the person page.
3. Reassign requests that are already pending with **Reassign to someone else**. Changing settings doesn't move pending requests.

## "No one is configured to approve this request."

**Cause:** the person has no supervisor (or the supervisor is inactive) and the organization has no backup approver; or the only candidate is the requester themselves.

**Fix:** in **Settings → Approval processes**, click **Show problems** to see the people without a valid route. Set a supervisor, a **Backup approver** or the **Send to a specific person** option.

## A manager doesn't see a request to review

* Check that the manager is named as the approver (test the approval route).
* If the manager has an active [delegation](/en/time-off/approval-delegation), new requests go to the delegate.
* If the request has two stages, the second stage appears only after the first is approved.

## "This request cannot be approved"

**Cause:** the person's available balance isn't enough and the policy doesn't allow a negative balance.

**Fix:** decline the request, or ask HR to [adjust the balance](/en/time-off/balances). Alternatively, HR can turn on **Balance may go below zero** in the policy.

## The request was decided somewhere else

If someone decided on the request in Tivero, the Teams card shows that and doesn't let anyone decide twice. Refresh the view.
